Client brief

The live stream creative capture of a unique sports and entertainment moment; British rapper AJ Tracey performing on a floating basketball court on the Thames in London. Working directly for Hennessey, and alongside creative and communications agency Hue & Cry, we had just 10 days to plan and execute this amazing spectacle.

The final position of the floating basketball court near Tower Bridge was dependent on two tug boats, river traffic and river conditions at the time of the performance. There was also no power on the barge.

Vivid solution

The uncertainty of the final position of the basketball court barge meant we had to plan for a range of scenarios both for camera and RF coverage.

Our solution included helicopter coverage for context, steadicam and Agito on the barge to capture the main performance, cameras (including a jib) on two support boats, a drone for overhead court shots, and box lenses on the shore. Power on the barge for lighting, audio and RF transmitters was provided by a battery solution.

We ensured redundancy throughout for a seamless stream.

Results

The stream was a massive success, with all cameras used in the final live broadcast with no drop out. The ‘Courts Beyond Limits’ campaign went on to win at the Drum Awards for Experience in the sponsorship activation/event category. Press coverage included more than 50 news items posted by regional, national and international press; including appearances in The Times and London Evening Standard and a social reach of over 137 million.
