Assistant Sound Engineer

Full time

We are looking for a motivated and creative Assistant Sound Engineer to join our team.                     

As Assistant Sound Engineer, you will be responsible for sound oriented responsibilities within Vivid. You will work on a variety of Outside Broadcasts across the UK and on occasion world-wide, whether with our flypacks, OB trucks or remote galleries. The main focus of the role will be to assist with the prepping, testing and supporting sound solutions, working closely with the Vivid team and HoD’s to further develop your skills, experience and knowledge

Based from our facility near Guildford/Woking, this full time position will involve travel throughout the UK and sometimes, abroad. 

Role Responsibilities: 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Prep, rig and de rig on OB’s, with our trucks, flypacks or within the studio or MCR.

  • Help set up, operate, diagnose and solve technical issues on site. 

  • Assist with RTS Telex Comms system design, prep and operation. 

  • Assist with remeding workflow for intercom systems including IFBs and mix minuses

  • Keep kit organised and well maintained in the warehouse. 

  • Proactively action repairs internally or externally with manufactures/service centres

  • Interact with clients, directors and producers in a confident and professional manner to deliver productions to a high standard.

  • Contribute to providing sound solutions that are fresh and innovative.

  • Assist with the set up and maintenance of Dante networks (as well as working with SDI, AES and MADI).

On some OB’s you may have the opportunity to operate and mix

About you

You have demonstrable experience of audio engineering with knowledge of topics such as microphones, in-ear monitoring, mixing for broadcast, loudness measurements, comms and audio routing.

With some experience in production, you will have a good understanding of video and audio formats used for broadcast (SDI, Dante, AES, MADI etc) and principles of video and audio transmission as well as broadcast monitoring. You understand workflow for intercom systems including IFBs and mix minuses.

You are confident interacting with clients under pressure and eager to work on a range of new and exciting projects. Keen to use your knowledge and skills, you want to develop innovative engineering solutions with consideration for the latest trends and technologies.

We would also find the following skills/experience advantageous:

  • Familiarity with Calrec Summa and Artemis desks.

  • An understanding of IP routing and switching, RTS Telex comms systems and Dante audio systems.

  • A relevant engineering or audio degree (or equivalent)

The role

This is a full time role based at Vivid offices and warehouse facilities near Guildford. Please note due to the nature of the business, this role involves shift work to cover weekends and late nights, sometimes at short notice, for which time off in lieu will be given.

This role will involve handling/lifting heavy equipment, working at heights. 

When not on location, the role is based at our Vivid offices and warehouse in Woking. Due to the nature of the work and our location, a valid driving licence is essential to be considered for this role.

Guarantee Sound Engineer

Full Time

If you are an experienced sound engineer looking for a unique opportunity to work on a diverse range of interesting and high profile projects, then we would like to hear from you.

As Guarantee Sound Engineer you will be responsible for prepping, testing and supporting sound solutions, whether with our flypacks, OB trucks or remote gallery solutions. 

This full time position will involve working closely alongside the Broadcast Vision Guarantee and Head of Engineering from project inception and planning through to delivery. Technology is constantly changing within the broadcast industry, and we’re committed to staying fresh and innovative in the way we produce programmes and bring solutions - this role is a key part of us delivering on a daily basis.

Based from our facility in Mayford, Woking, you will be responsible for the smooth operation of all things sound within Vivid, whether on one of our trucks, flypacks or within the MCR.
 

Role Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Confidently interact with clients, directors and producers in the delivery of productions
  • Set up and maintenance of AV IP-networks including Dante systems
  • RTS Telex Comms system design, prep and operation
  • Sound operation and mixing for some OB’s and Flypack solutions
  • Set up, operate, diagnose and solve technical issues on site
  • Effective communication to ensure that the client’s needs are met and delivered to a high standard
  • Actioning repairs internally or externally with manufactures / service centres

As well as guaranteeing, you will regularly operate and therefore should have a good understanding of audio best practices; sound mixing to broadcast standards for live broadcasts or recorded material.
 

About you

You must be eager to work on a range of new and exciting projects, using your knowledge and skills to develop innovative engineering solutions with consideration for the latest trends and technologies.

With significant experience in production, you will have a deep understanding of video and audio formats used for broadcast (SDI, Dante, AES, MADI etc) and principles of video and audio transmission as well as broadcast monitoring. You will fully understand workflow for intercom systems including IFBs and mix minuses.

A solid understanding of IP routing and switching and knowledge of Electrical Safety regulations, RTS Telex comms systems and Dante audio systems would be extremely advantageous.

Applicants should have demonstrable experience of audio engineering with knowledge of topics such as microphones, in-ear monitoring, mixing for broadcast, loudness measurements, comms and audio routing.

You must be confident working with clients under pressure.

Rigger / Driver

Full time

 

We have a brilliant opportunity for a personable, organised and technically minded local driver to join our team.

The Driver/Rigger’s role is to organise and drive Vivid’s fleet of vehicles which include HGV trucks, between sites across the UK and on occasion, overseas. On location they will assist in rigging and derigging and help prep/de-prep back at base. This role is based at our warehouse facilities located in Mayford, Woking.  

The Driver/Rigger ensures that each vehicle leaves base looking and operating at its best. They will use their experience of driving vehicles to improve working practices and ensure vehicles and kit are well maintained and serviced in order to best support the productions. 

We are looking for a locally based careful driver, with a positive outlook and fastidious attention to vehicle appearance and maintenance. Whilst HGV driving experience is essential for this role, rigger experience within the Broadcast industry is not. Vivid will provide support and training to anyone keen to start working in the TV industry. 

 

Applicants must carry Driver CPC licence.

 

Role Responsibilities: 

Main activities include but are not limited to

Driving & Rigging

  • Carry out safety checks on vehicles and report and action any issues. 

  • Drive a variety of vehicles including HGV trucks to site, transporting equipment and crew members.       

  • Perform kit returns/collections to and from external companies across the UK.   

  • Rig and de rig cables and kit on OB’s sites, across the UK and on occasions, Worldwide.

Transport 

  • Schedule routine maintenance of vehicles in line with compulsory requirements, transport and H&S legislation.

  • Complete regular vehicle checks, ensure all paperwork is up to date and filed. Maintain accurate records.

  • Clean and maintain trucks, to ensure they go out in the best possible condition.

  • Develop best practice policies to improve employee knowledge, safety and wellbeing.

As part of the day to day operation within the Warehouse, part of the responsibilities include helping to ensure the Warehouse is kept organised to assist the team with operating at its optimum. This involves ensuring proper storage of kit and area’s are clean and tidy at all times. 

Please note due to the nature of the business, this role involves shift work to cover weekends and late nights, sometimes at short notice, for which time off in lieu will be given.

About you 

You will have a

  • Full HGV C Class 2 licence with no more than six points for minor endorsements

  • Minimum 2 years Relevant experience

  • Digital Tacho and Driver Qualification Cards

  • A good understanding of Drivers hours, regulations, and Working time directive

  • Excellent geographical knowledge

  • Experience of driving a range of vehicles.

  • This role will involve handling/lifting heavy equipment, so the ability to lift and carry kit is essential.

  • Prior experience as a Transport Manager or a role working under Operator Licence compliance, is desirable.

  • Experience of OB rigging would be beneficial.
